2026 State Housing Tax Credit Program

We received word on February 17, 2026, that the portal had received more requests than funding is available. If you’ve already reserved your credit, thank you for taking action. The state has indicated that all requests will be reviewed and requesters contacted with next steps.

The SHTC is a way to help finance affordable housing right here in
Rice County! Eligible Minnesota taxpayers can contribute between $1,000 and $2 million to the Contribution Fund (and to a project in Northfield) and receive a state tax credit certificate (TCC) that equals 85% of their total contributions.
This is a unique way to direct your tax dollars to a project you care about!

On Tuesday, February 17 you can go to the SHTC website to make your contribution.

- After filling out your personal information and contribution amount, select "Specific Qualified Project" on the last step.
