Before Rice County Habitat for Humanity officially was started in 1991, the volunteers who would ultimately start our Habitat affiliate worked on a program in Faribault called MURL (this program no longer exists). The Faribault Housing and Redevelopment Authority applied for funds and volunteers helped to rehab housing. Habitat for Humanity affiliates around the country have a long history of acquiring and rehabbing homes. The difficulty over the last decade has been finding homes to acquire at reasonable prices.
Our Acquisition and Rehab program looks for homes that are modestly priced and need some rehab (but not bad enough where it should be torn down).

The next Acquisition and Rehab project (Starfish) was in 2024. This was a great partnership with the Northfield Housing and Redevelopment Authority. They sold us the property at a price that helped make the mortgage affordable for the Aldana Family that ultimately moved in to the house.
