We choose households on three main criteria:

Need for Housing

Your current housing is inadequate in some way or you’re paying too much of your income for rent.

Ability To Pay

You must be able to pay a mortgage that includes principal, interest, taxes, and insurance. Your household income needs to be under 80% of Rice County's Area Median Income (AMI).

Willingness to Partner

Our families aren’t customers or clients – they are our partners! You must be willing to contribute time building your home and be ambassadors of our program.

What does Area Median Income mean?  This is the middle income for a given area and determined each year by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

This meeting is a required part of the application process.


Step 3 - Apply for a third-party mortgage loan with our Family Services Coordinator.

What does a Habitat home look like on the inside?

This is the inside of 215 Twin Oaks Court in Faribault.  This is a six bedroom, two bath home.  Not all houses have six bedrooms and two bathrooms.  We try to build to accommodate the needs of each family.

This is 501 Ford Street, Northfield.  This is a two bedroom, two bath, fully accessible home.  We are currently accepting applications for this home!
