About Rice County Habitat for Humanity

Our Mission

Rice County Habitat for Humanity partners with families who otherwise may be unable to achieve the dream of home ownership by establishing partnerships among God’s people to build simple, decent, and affordable homes.

Habitat for Humanity International

Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Today Habitat for Humanity is a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing. To read more about the Fullers and the history of Habitat for Humanity, click below.

Our History

Rice County Habitat was chartered in 1991 and built its first house in 1993 in Northfield. A couple of things merged to create our affiliate. First, a group from some local churches went on a Habitat trip to Michigan. They came back inspired and energized to do the same work locally. Secondly, there was a city program in Faribault that helped remodel homes with and for low-income people. People from both groups came together to form a Rice County Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Since then, we have continued building houses with people in need. Habitat brings together volunteers and Partner Families to build homes and communities.
