Our Thrivent Builds Homes
Judy and her four children currently share a two bedroom home. They are excited to have a home of their own with a yard, a washer and dryer that doesn’t need quarters, and a place to celebrate birthdays and holidays.
Jeff and Amber Benson and their children are thrilled to be in their home in Dundas. It’s a dream that came true in 2014 thanks to the Thrivent Builds partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Thanks Thrivent for the amazing support of this family and our organization!
2013 Dundas – Amy Weed and Family
2012 – Ron and Clara Voegele
Here’s a little bit of their story: Ron grew up outside of Faribault. When Ron and Clara got married they moved into Faribault for a while. Later, in 1991, they put a mobile home on land adjacent to the farmhouse he grew up on that his brother owned. The mobile home, although it was used, was a place they could call home. Over the years the mobile home has deteriorated. It’s to the point where the floor is falling through, the walls are thin and the roof can’t handle one more thunderstorm. Ron tried hard to patch up the mobile home over the years but, at this point, it’s too far gone. When our Family Selection Committee interviewed Ron and Clara in their home we were impressed with how hospitable and welcoming they were. Even though the condition of the home wasn’t the best or shiniest – they welcomed us with open arms into their home. We look forward to the day when they can welcome YOU into their new Habitat for Humanity home.
Unfortunately, a tragic accident on May 31, 2012, brought Ron’s life to an end. Habitat is still building with Clara to provide her a simple, decent and affordable place to live and to bring honor to Ron’s memory.
As Clara says, “It’s going to be the house that love built.”
